PORTFOLIO REVIEWS FESTIVAL
Every other April, an international set of photographers and reviewers gather in Portland, Oregon for a five-day celebration of photography that includes lectures, workshops, and exhibition collaborations. Intensive portfolio reviews are at the heart of the festival. Reviewers are selected for their experience, involvement, and commitment to advancing the work of emerging and mid-career artists. Over the years, many participants have made contacts that have led directly to exhibitions, publications, and sales, in addition to receiving useful critiques.
By providing a venue for in-depth, informed, and supportive dialogue between photographers, gallery owners, curators, publishers, editors, and consultants, Photolucida promotes the culture of photography locally, nationally, and internationally. This Portfolio Reviews Festival took place April 24-28, 2019.
During the period of Photo Lucida, I met with 16 reviewers to discuss the work.
Portfolio Walk was held on Tuesday, April 25, 2019 at the Portland Art Museum's Fields Ballroom (Marks Building). It was held from 6 pm to 9 pm and took place in 3 sessions.
A Portfolio Walk at the Portland Art Museum is organized for participants and is always embraced enthusiastically by the Portland public.
I took part in the session 2. And I talked with many people to see my work.
It has become an amazing opportunity and learnings for me.
In addition to the primary Reviews appointments, Photolucida provides an informal meeting room with “roving” reviewers who look at work and give feedback and potential opportunities.
I experienced a lot of “roving” reviewers. That was very important to me. In addition, it was to be helpful for future work making.
Additional programming also includes “lunchtime chats” (daily talks from luminaries in the photography world) and evening events. I went to Photobook Fair & Silent Auction held at Blue Sky Gallery, an evening event. It was a public event.
Photographer ’s Photobook Share took place on April 28 at the Crystal Ballroom. I did not participate, but my companions were able to sell the books.
The Closing Party was held on April 28 at the Miller Pavilion at Oregon Historical Society. We had that fun time.
I stayed in Portland, not a Benson Hotel. I went on foot from the hotel in my neighborhood to the review site every day.
The city of Portland was very beautiful and safe.
I posted a photo of the memory.
It was a great experience for me.
